Who’s eligible today?
From 14 September 2025, NBN Co began lifting speeds on the fastest residential tiers across Australia. If you’re already with us on an eligible NBN™ plan over FTTP or HFC, we’re passing the boost on automatically at no extra cost as rollouts complete, no plan change needed. And if you’re not with us yet, this is a great time to switch to an Australian team that keeps you future-ready.
What changed on the NBN® (in plain English)
NBN® 100 → now up to 500/50 Mbps (called Home Fast II at wholesale).
NBN® 250 → now up to 750/50 Mbps (Home Superfast).
NBN® 1000 → now 1000/100 Mbps (Home Ultrafast upload doubled).
New: NBN® 2000 (Home Hyperfast) up to 2000/200 Mbps on FTTP, 2000/100 Mbps on HFC.
These are wholesale “up to” access speeds; retailers like us translate them into retail plans and typical evening speeds.
Timing
The upgrade window opened 14 Sept 2025; providers are enabling it over September–October. Many customers will see faster speeds without paying more where eligible.
Who’s eligible today?
- First in line: addresses on FTTP or HFC.
- If you’re on FTTN/FTTC: you’ll typically need a fibre upgrade first; many addresses can access a $0 fibre install via NBN’s program when ordering an eligible plan through participating providers (conditions apply). Ask us to check your address.
Do you need to pay more?
In many cases, no; major providers say they’ll pass on the upgrade at no extra cost for customers already on eligible fast tiers. As always, prices and inclusions vary by provider and plan.
Melbourne & Australia-wide: what this means for homes and small businesses
- Smoother hybrid work: higher upload (e.g., 1000/100) helps video calls, cloud docs and VoIP.
- Less congestion at night: bigger headroom for 4K streaming and game downloads during the 7–11pm busy window.
- Room to grow: Multi-gig (2000 Mbps) supports 2.5GbE/10GbE home-office setups and fast cloud backups for SMEs.
Quick checklist so you actually see the speed
1. Check your connection type (FTTP/HFC vs FTTN/FTTC) and eligibility, ping us with your address and we’ll confirm.
2. Update the bottlenecks: Older modems/Wi-Fi can cap speed well below your plan. Wi-Fi 6/7 and 2.5GbE ports help on faster tiers.
3. Use a wired test to verify the upgrade first, then fine-tune Wi-Fi placement/mesh.

- If you’re on our eligible 100/250/1000 plans over FTTP/HFC, we’ll pass through the new higher speeds as they land on your line, with no price rise.
- We’ll let you know if your modem needs a refresh to unlock the full boost.

Why we write nbn® and sometimes nbn™ (and when to use each)
In Australia:
- ™ means you’re claiming a trade mark (even if it’s not registered yet). Brands also sometimes keep ™ on certain names by choice.
- ® means the mark is registered in Australia. It’s an offence to use ® if it’s not actually registered here.
For nbn’s brands specifically:
- nbn uses a mix of marks, you’ll see business nbn® on current pages, but some older/product materials still show nbn™. That’s normal; we mirror nbn’s own styling and legal status.
- We do not edit nbn logos or swap symbols on artwork. We use the official files and include the required brand notice:
